The Devil often appears in a reading when we are indulging in something that is not good for us. The Devil represents temptation, obsession, control, the easy over the right path, giving into sexual urges of a dark nature as well as the being the little devil on your shoulder (i.e. your critic) who works to derail you. As much and as tempting it is to think of the Devil as an entity outside of ourselves, the Devil more often than not can be found in the closest mirror. Within each of us is the eternal struggle of good over bad from the littllest things (did you let the person into your lane this morning?) to the most earth shattering things that we all know and may be participating in now. The power of the Devil truly lies in the ability to tempt. The chocolate cake, the accidental windfall, the handsome neighbor across the street are full of pleasure... so hard to say no! So hard to do the right thing! It is sometimes an act of great will to turn down something so easy, so well-paying, so....sexy. But do it we must because otherwise we would lose our sense of integrity, our self worth, our connection to Light. 1. Right now I am being tempted by... 2. I am having a hard time resisting the temptation because... 3. I use the following tools to help me resist that which I know is not good... 4. I allowed the Devil into my life before and while it initially felt great it all fell apart when...

I feel there comes a time in a person's life when what you do and what you like is what you do and what you like. Some people call that defiance, while others call it clarity, and still others call it confidence.

Thanks for posting. I believe that if there is no internal struggle, then its not the work of the "Devil". Temptation means doing something you feel you shouldn't...whether than is a social no or an internal one the Devil exists in the struggle rather than the thing itself.

Oh, you're (ironically stated) preaching to the choir on that. I of course was referring to the XV The Devil card with "Devil-binds." Sounds like we are on either sides of the same page rather than on the same page. I don't get it when people feel the urge to do something they shouldn't. I mean, I do, though it perplexes me to no end how much power people give up to what's right and wrong from other peoples' lists, when in reality there are only consequences. Thing is, I'm no criminal, so I needn't spend much time or energy keeping too many things at bay. I do the things I do. I don;t do the things I don't. Consequences feel to be most effective when they telegraph a clear view back that has neither shame nor guilt in it. Of course we all make mistakes, though I feel temptation is thinking about doing something you feel you shouldn't rather than doing something you think you shouldn't. Temptation is a whiff, a scent, an entertaining of something. Temptation doesn;t seem to be an action, more of a magnet of sorts. It's like risk. Once taken, it is no longer risk but a scope of work to be performed. Your comment will be posted after it is approved.
