August 2017 Tarotscope

This tarotscope was written in the shadow of another Mercury Retrograde.

Mercury stations retrograde officially on August 12th in Virgo until finally going direct on
September 5th in Leo. As per usual, back up your tech, take extra precautions when traveling, and avoid signing contracts if you can.

Usually, I can tell a retrograde is coming just on the tarotscopes I pull for everyone but this month is different. This month is largely positive for most people and it does reflect a focus on love and relationships which supports the energy of a super Venus (the planet of love and relationships) also happening during this period.

This month we have 4 Major Arcana, 3 Aces, 1 Cup, 1 Pentacle, 3 Wands and only one Court card. The focus on Major Arcana and Aces is largely extremely positive. The goal posts have moved towards big picture themes and ways of being over the nuts and bolts of living a life.

A dearth of Court cards reemphasize the focus on thematic process over navel gazing at this time. August brings gifts to many and the lack of doom and gloom cards suggests a kinder, more gentle Mercury retrograde.

Leo
​The Lovers
When Leo is happy, his joy radiates and he gladly shares his happiness with everyone. This month, in your birthday month, you are in love with life, in love with love, and your passion brings others closer to you in every facet of your life.

August may be particularly auspicious for romantic relationships of all types and the emphasis is on intimacy. Who do you need to let inside? Who's door is open, waiting for you to walk through? Intimacy requires risk, but if anyone is brave enough, it is a Leo. Find the places where you connect to others and deepen them.

While this month is the Lion's domain, you are not without influence, Virgo, for I pulled Strength for you. This card represents the archetype of Fortitude: the mind of man, the compassion of  woman, and the instinct, strength, and courageousness of a lion. You get it all working interdependently together. All cylinders firing you find yourself working at your best, being your best, feeling your best.

Now the question is, what are you going to do with this you at your best? Don't waste this special confluence of everything working as best as it can. Take this frame of mind and run with it, across the Serengeti, get that antelope.

Wheel of Fortune
August may be a topsy, turvy month for you, Libra. I know you like to keep things on the 'steady as she goes' side but this 'WofF' portends some serious chaos. My take on it is this; do not take anything for granted because some things you might have been banking on will be found lacking in August.

Conversely, some things you had abandoned will return and be made useful to you. You will lose something, but gain another. The best you can hope for is to gracefully accept a loss but also to strategically jump on a new opportunity.

Ace of Swords
Speaking your mind without giving any you know whats is usually not a Scorpios way of handling things but this month (and strangely in a retrograde month) is giving you the oomph and credibility you need to: Speak. Your. Truth. This sword can often indicate tough language or not giving a d*mn about what they think or what they do. You need to stand up for yourself, speak to your needs and draw outrageous boundaries.

The time for normally handling situations in normal Scorpio fashion is over, come on up out of the water and lay the smack down.

Where are the winds taking you, Sag? This month is particularly auspicious for travel (also unusual for a Mercury retrograde month) and if you can find time to visit family and friends as well as sneak in some adventure, the energy around you is supporting this.

This upcoming Mercury Retrograde may hit you financially. Watch your overspending and make sure that if you need to pay for repairs, that you get several quotes before settling on one, and be judicious about lending money. Could your friends or family be having a great time but you feel left out because of financial issues? Find a way to include yourself that will not break the bank. Tell your loved ones that you straight up cannot afford Puerto Rico right now, ask that they look at their plans and reformulate them so that they can include you.

Say nice things to yourself. 9/Wands is often an energy that illustrates inner turmoil and struggle. Your enemy is within and when you have a distressing thought ask yourself, is this an objective and logical thought? Do I proof for the things I am thinking about myself. August is asking you to push forward and to create space to love yourself better.

Look, I used to NOT be 'one of those people' who would allow astrology to plan my life for me. In fact, I am more of an astronomer than an astrologer. But, paying attention specifically to what happened to me over Mercury Retrogrades has certainly changed my mind to some degree. In any case, its never a bad idea to back up your hardware and it is certainly never a bad idea to drive carefully. Even if one thinks that the Mercury Retrograde is a crock, it is a kind reminder to take care of things that can often be forgotten about-until it breaks!
