We often use tarot in such limited and limiting ways. It is like having a fancy scientific calculator but only using the most basic calculations, largely ignoring what the other buttons can do for us.
I spend a lot of brain power thinking about the nature of time. It is in fact impossible to ignore since my days are filled with time based questions from clients such as, "When will he? When will that? When can I?" kinds of questions. First, if you have ever had a reading from me you know I resist those questions because I doubt the basic assumption here which is that time and fate are linked like a train going down a track: Past created present which will create future. I believe that time is not the railroad, but rather a tree. Every decision we make causes branches, twigs and separation to occur. And, just how a tree is a current living embodiment of itself as its whole self, so too do I think that the potentiality of future yous all currently exist. There are an infinite number of yous currently existing through all dimensions of time both past, present, and future. And they are all real and moving at the same time with relationships to one another also in real time. Every choice you make, every aspect you consider is like skipping a rock across a lake, the ripples effect the whole matrix wherein all yous reside. That matrix is space time. So while I disagree with the simplistic notion of time, I do think that tarot has an ability to open a window, showing us a branching off (one of many) from one of our many future selves. That window is, however, relevant to the causality of the present moment, and important to the person asking the question. In short, there is often no one right answer, there are many right and wrong answers and tarot can help us look at them all. We are of course heavily biased from our present-perspective. For example, we want past life regression, but I have yet to hear about anyone conducting future lives progression. Do I believe we can do both? Absolutely. It shouldn't make a difference. In fact I have had a series of future life dreams over the course of years (but this is a blog for another time). Our bias also influences how we use tarot cards. We normally conduct readings as a present person wondering what will happen in the future or we use a tarot reading to gain clarity on something that has happened in the past. But you know what else you can do? You can do a reading from your future you to present you. Next time you decide on a tarot spread of your choice, ask your future you to send you a message via the cards. What does one of those future state yous want to tell you? Instead of asking God, the Universe, your guardian spirit to guide you to the right cards and message, ask a you of 5 years from now, or 10, or 20. Ask them what they, the future you, would like to tell you about your present moment. Don't ask about the future. Ask the future about the present you are now inhabiting. Trust me, they are super invested in your choices right now. And when you are done getting the message from your future you. Write them an email, this free service will send your email to you on any date in the future you desire. Shoot one off for a year, or 5 or more. Thank future you for the heads up as you navigate your present. For me, tarot is best served as a message from the future concerning our present predicament. The message is not an objective tallying of what will be, but rather a heart centered message catered to the present moment we must navigate, It is advice to head up one branch of the causality tree and to avoid the stem of another. Tarot can be grand probability machine to hack greater clarity in our choices and our life, right now and for all the nows before and after.

Oh, how I love this idea of future self advising present self! Can't wait to employ it. Many thanks.

Wow! I never thought of the future to present aspect. In so many ways, it makes sense for me. I definitely have to do this, though I'll néed to prepare ny present self for this :)

I LOVED this post! I also spend a lot of time thinking about how my decisions ripple in to different realities and I have always wondered how I might be able to sneak a peak into these dimensions.

I love this view of time, and this practice for readings.
